After a Royal Australian Air Force themed jersey in 2024, Royal Australian Navy in 2025, for 2026 we complete the ADF trilogy with an Australian Army themed ANZAC jersey. 2026 also marks the 110th anniversary of ANZAC day. Because of this anniversary, we have chosen to use the 3rd iteration of the Rising Sun on the front of our jersey, the same version that was in use in the Australian Army in 1916.

This year is also the first time we play in an ANZAC jersey in New Zealand, and therefore on the back of the jersey we have an Australian and New Zealand digger, side-by-side, standing guard next to the ode of remembrance. The term digger became popular during WW1 to describe Australian and New Zealand soldiers. The ode of remembrance is the fourth stanzas from the poem “For the Fallen” by Laurence Binyon, first published in September 1914.

The trilogy of jerseys are all connected by the same design elements on all three jerseys.

  • The tri service colours on the sleeves, dark blue, red and light blue, representing the Navy, Army and Air Force respectively.
  • The rosemary with our Brumbies logo. Rosemary is worn on ANZAC day in both Australia and New Zealand as a poignant symbol of remembrance. Traditionally it is worn on the left lapel, close to the heart, to commemorate those who served and died in war. Although rosemary is worn, a red poppy is more common in New Zealand.
  • And on the back we have the three different colours of poppies, white, red and purple. The white poppy commemorates people who died in conflict, but focuses on achieving peace and challenging the way we look at war. The red poppy is the most famous symbol used to commemorate those who sacrificed their lives in World War One and conflicts that followed. The purple poppy is to remember animals that have been victims of war.

Lest we forget.
